Farmers' concerns on EFL to be addressed : Forests Minister Binoy Viswom

The Kerala government would take steps to address farmers' concerns about the identification of ecologically fragile lands, Forests Minister Binoy Viswom said here Friday.

In a statement here, he said the government had set up a special mechanism to settle disputes regarding EFL land holdings upto two hectares with a view to protect the interests of farmers.

The LDF government had amended the 2005 EFL Act, enabling farmers apply for exemption within a period of six months, which had expired. As many farmers could not submit their applications within the stipulated time, the government was considering extending the deadline, he said.

He said the government wanted farmers to get the maximum benefit out of the amendment to the EFL Act.
