Projects worth Rs.22 crore for district panchayat

Thrissur: The Thrissur District Panchayat will implement development projects worth Rs. 22.44 crore during 2010-11, District Panchayat President Ambadi Venu has said.

He was speaking after inaugurating a development seminar organised by the District Panchayat here on Friday.

�Successful interventions of District Panchayat have rejuvenated the agriculture sector. Innovative schemes needed to make farming profitable,� Mr. Venu said.

He called for evolving projects to turn more fallow lands into cultivable ones. The District Panchayat has allotted Rs. 12.65 crore for projects in general category and Rs. 9.46 crore for projects in special category.

Production and service sectors would get Rs. 2.27 crore and Rs 8.11 crore respectively. Rs. 2.27 crore would be spent on infrastructure development.

The district panchayat has allotted Rs. 11.37 lakh for an agriculture research project that would be initiated in association with Kerala Agricultural University.

Other major allotments included Rs. 10 lakh for turning fallow lands to cultivable ones and Rs. 2.5 lakh for procurement of coconut.

Mazhapolima project at schools would get Rs. 1.18 lakh.
