Sanction for mining sand from Idukki rivers



KATTAPPANA: The district administration has given sanction for mining 848 tonnes of sand per day from the sand-mining spots (kadavu) of rivers in the Vellathooval, Kodikkulam, Marayur, Konnathadi, Upputhara and Adimaly grama panchayats. The Kadavu Committees formed as per the Kerala Riverbank Protection and Control of Sand-mining Act will supervise sand mining.

The sand mined by recognised labourers in accordance with the conditions set by the tahsildar will be supplied to the needy.

Kadavus will be sanctioned in other grama panchayats after verifying the official data regarding the quantity of sand available and the demand in the area.
