Thazhathangadi Tragedy: Driver remanded to 14 days� judicial custody

KOTTAYAM: The driver of the private bus which plunged into a river at Thazhathangadi here on two days back, killing 11 persons, was remanded to 14 days judicial custody by a local court here Thursday.

The driver, who was arrested Wednesday, was shifted to the sub-jail here.

Following the mishap, the government had ordered a probe by Transport Commissioner (Central range) P K Stephen and directed him to submit his report within a week.

The driver has alleged that the steering system of the bus had developed a technical snag. However, a preliminary report after examination of the vehicle found that the brakes and steering system were functioning properly.

Meanwhile, the bodies of 11 victims were handed over to the next of kin Wednesday, after completing legal and medical formalities.
