Two injured as CPI (M), BJP activists clash

KANNUR: Two persons were injured and six houses and five vehicles were damaged in a clash between CPI (M) and BJP activists at Thalakkara and Keezhur, near Irritty in the district Sunday night.

Police said 16 CPI (M) sympathisers were arrested and weapons and crude bombs were recovered from them.

The clashes started with the attack on two BJP workers, identified as P Vinayan (18) and P V VIjesh (29), allegedly by the CPI (M) activists Sunday evening. They were admitted to a private hospital at Irrity, police added.

In retaliation, BJP activists attacked CPI (M) Keezhoor Branch Secretary Jayakrishnan, who was later taken to a hospital at Kannur, the sources added.
