Viva Kerala beat Dempo 1-0 in I-League

KOZHIKODE: Nigerian Reuben Senyo scored the all important goal as Viva Kerala stunned table topper Dempo of Goa 1-0 in an I-League football championship match on Monday.

Desperate for an outright win, Viva Kerala, which has 15 points after 14 matches, staged a spirited all round display to beat Dempo, leading the table with 29 points after 14 games, to boost their spirits before another tough match against Churchill Brothers.

The vital breakthrough came in the 41st minute when their Nigerian import Senyo, who later adjudged man of the match, headed in a pass off substitute Nishad.

The second-half saw Viva Kerala totally outclassing Dempo but wasting umpteen chances and putting up an iron defence to thwart their rivals attack.
