Ensuring security of senior citizens

The police are turning senior-citizen friendly in the wake of an increase in cases of attack on them. Based on a government directive, the city police have drawn up a new system to protect the life and property of senior citizens.

All police stations will compile a list of senior citizens residing within their jurisdiction, particularly those living alone. The list will be maintained in a register at each station. The Register of Senior Citizens will contain the name, address, sex, date of birth, age, telephone numbers and contact number of neighbours and relatives of the senior citizens concerned.

A policeman representing the station along with a social worker or volunteer will visit the senior citizen at least once a month. They will provide help to them, if needed
