Kerala seeks Rs.169 crore central aid for drought relief

TPURAM: Kerala Government has sought a financial assistance of Rs.169 crore from Centre to meet drought relief operations, Revenue Minister K P Rajendran said here Friday.

An all-party delegation led by Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan, scheduled to meet Prime Minister Manmohan Singh next month, would take up this matter also, he told reporters.

The Centre had promised to send a 10-member team to assess the drought damage in the state. The team was expected to vist the state on the thrid week of May, he said.

However, by that time, situation in the state was likely to change with the monsoon setting in, Rajendran said. Centre should help the state in tackling the drought relief, he said
