LDF workers lay siege to post office in Kannur

KANNUR: Left Democratic Front (LDF) workers laid siege to the RMS Post Office here on Thursday as part of a nation-wide agitation by the Left parties in protest against the policies of the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government at the Centre and its failure to check price rise.

E.P. Jayarajan, central committee member of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), who inaugurated the agitation here, said the UPA government had done little to offer relief to ordinary citizens struggling with the rising prices of essential commodities even as it gave a lot of concessions to the rich. He said only the Congress held the view that the country was heading towards progress, while it was being pauperised.

Similar protests were also held in Thalassery, Taliparamba and Mattannur in the district.
