Mangalavanam: Ministry seeks report on township



KOCHI: The Union Ministry of Environment and Forest has sought a detailed report from the State Forest Department regarding the establishment of an eco-township at near Mangalavanam Bird Sanctuary.

R. Rajasekhar, secretary of the Ministry, has sought the report from the Chief Conservator of Forest (Wildlife) and Chief Wildlife Warden regarding the project proposed by the Kerala State Housing Board.

�The board has received reliable information through animal welfare activists and media reports that the Board proposed to develop a marine drive township in Kochi.

The above said project has drawn attention of the animal lovers, animal welfare activists and environmentalists regarding the development of the project in the vicinity of the Mangalavanam Bird Sanctuary vis-�-vis environmental concerns, the letter pointed out.
