State to reply on governor\'s address controversy

TPURAM: The state government will soon reply to Governor R S Gavais letter on allegations by the opposition that his address to the assembly in February had not been approved by the cabinet, Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan said Wednesday.

Gavai had last week written to Chief Secretary Neela Gangadharan seeking a clarification after a group of opposition legislators met him to point out what they termed a serious lapse on the part of the cabinet.

They said the cabinet failed to approve the address before Gavai delivered it in the assembly Feb 24.

See, we checked and found out that there have been precedents in the past and if the chief minister puts his signature, it is as good as the cabinet has approved it. There are no issues in this and we will soon write to the governor, Achuthanandan said.
