Three held for attacking police station

KOZHIKODE: Three youths have been arrested in connection with the recent attack on Chombala police station in the district, police said.

The trio, all in their 20s, were picked up by a police team near the Mahe railway station premises Sunday as the accused confessed to have hurled around six explosives on the police station on Thursday last to target a senior official there.

However, no one was injured in the attack in which the building suffered partial damage.

The attack was said to have been committed to retaliate the police for dispersing a five-member group for allegedly bursting crackers and indulging in unruly scenes in the Kallamala locality during the Vishu festivities.

Police had registered a case under IPC section 307 (attempt to murder) and provisions of Explosive and Substance Act
