Vembanad Lake comes under ICZM project

KOCHI: The critically vulnerable shores of the Vembanad Lake will be identified and a management plan prepared for their preservation.

The programme will be implemented under the Integrated Coastal Zone Management (ICZM) Project by the Union Ministry of Environment and Forests with the support of the World Bank.

One of the focus areas of the project will be the identification and demarcation of coastal fragile areas like mangroves, brackish water wetlands and coral reefs. A new category of critically vulnerable coastal areas, under which the lake has been included, will be designated and appropriate management plans implemented for their preservation and regeneration
