Campaign to save the tiger

KATTAPPANA: A three-day tourist sensitisation programme and a signature campaign organised by the World Wildlife Fund for Nature as part of its �Save Our Tiger campaign at the Periyar Tiger Reserve in Thekkady concluded on Monday.

The programme witnessed participation by the general public and tourists who visited the reserve and were given information on conservation efforts going on and the need for tiger protection, which is facing a threat due to changes in the reserve areas and dwindling habitat.

Joseph Karoor, former deputy director, wildlife education, Kerala Forests and Wildlife Department; Renjan Mathew Varghese, State director, WWF-India and A.K. Sivakumar, education officer, WWF-India; led the campaign for sensitising the visitors to need for protecting the big cats. A large number of volunteers, including students and employees, took part in the campaign
