Fined for dumping chicken waste

KOZHIKODE: The city Corporation has imposed a fine of Rs.5,000 on the driver of a three-wheeled goods carrier on the charge of dumping waste from chicken stalls in a grama panchayat on the city outskirts. A team of health inspectors comprising N. Ganeshan and V. Vijayakumar, on Friday, nabbed Panikkarkandiparamba A. Haris of Mathottam in Beypore grama panchayat while he was trying to dump the waste. The vehicle was taken into custody. The accused was charged under various sections of the Kerala Municipality Act of 1994. Health officer Sabarinath Ramamoorthy and Health Supervisor P. Subramanian said the corporation had earlier received complaints that utility vehicles transported waste from other grama panchayats and dumped it in isolated areas in the city limits. There were also complaints that workers of the civic body and a section of Kudumbasree volunteers were in collusion with those dumping waste in public places.
