IMA opposes State move

Kozhikode: The State committee of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) has opposed the government move to include a clause for fixing the responsibility on doctors on receiving complaints from the relatives of patients about any negligence on the part of doctors in the proposed Kerala Medical Service Persons and Medicare Service Institutions Bill.

In a statement here, State secretary Dr. J. Rajagopalan Nair and president Dr. Srikumar Vasudevan said that the Bill was not acceptable to the association. They said the focus of the Bill should have been restricted to taking stringent action against those who attacked hospitals.

According to them, even the Law Reforms Commission headed by Justice V.R. Krishna Iyer was against the inclusion of the clause in the Bill that seeks to fix the onus on doctors.
