Lions Clubs\' convention to be held in Kochi

KOCHI:The annual convention of the International Association of Lions Clubs (Multiple district 324-E) would be held at the Le Meridien Convention Centre here on May 9.

Around 3,000 people from 450 Lions Clubs are expected to participate.

The chairperson of the organising committee Kurian John said that the organisation was able to extend help to deserving people to the tune of Rs 10 crore during the past year.

�We helped 250 heart patients needing surgery in the State, and also 18,000 people with eye surgery.

The organisation also did an eye check on 15 lakh students.

Spectacles were distributed to 10,000 people and teachers from 4,000 schools trained in childrens health. Around 8,500 dialysis too was arranged.

Rice worth Rs. 26 lakh was distributed to people affected by floods, he said.
