Plea to bar teachers from contesting polls

Kochi:A Division Bench of the Kerala High Court on Friday issued notice to the State government and other respondents on a writ petition seeking to restrain aided schoolteachers and staff from contesting elections to various bodies, including the Assembly and Parliament.

The notice was issued by the Bench of Justice C.N. Ramachandran Nair and Justice P. S.Gopinathan.

According to Moosa A.S, manager, AMLP School, Mannarkkad, Palakkad, as per the provisions of the Kerala Government Service Conduct Rules, government employees, including government teachers, were barred from contesting elections. However, the rules had not been made applicable to the teachers and non-teaching staff of aided schools.
