Seminar on precision farming held

Kozhikode: To familiarise farmers with precision farming, which has yielded good results in the United States, Israel and in Tamil Nadu, the Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) of the Indian Institute of Spices Research (IISR) in Kozhikode organised a one-day seminar at KVK in Peruvannamuzhi on Thursday.

The participants were told that the adoption of precision farming had yielded good results in developed countries in the last decade.

Tamil Nadu, with the help of its agriculture department and agriculture universities, was the first Indian State to adopt precision farming. The results were astonishing. The farmers were getting net returns of Rs.3 lakh to Rs.4 lakh from a single acre of land. Drip irrigation along with the application of soluble fertiliser is the new additive component of precision farming, Dr. Anu Varghese, Associate Professor, Kerala Agriculture University, said at the seminar.

The seminar was organised jointly by KVK, Viswamitra Club, NABARD and State Horticulture Mission
