Special\' squads against crime disbanded

Thiruvananthapuram: The police on Friday disbanded the self-styled crime squads that functioned under certain Assistant Commissioners and Circle Inspectors of police in the city in the wake of charges of corruption and criminal nexus.

Deputy Commissioner of Police C.H. Nagaraju is inquiring into the activities of the plainclothes squads created initially to track gangsters and collect information on underworld activities.

The charges against the squad members include socialising with gangsters, fanning underworld rivalries and supporting certain gangs against their rivals for monetary and personal gains.
