Vigilance probe against DIG

Thrissur: Inquiry Commissioner and Special Judge (Vigilance) N. Rajagopalan has ordered an investigation into an allegation of cheating against S. Sreejith, Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Crime Branch, by a former friend.

The judge on Friday directed the Director of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau, Thiruvananthapuram, to investigate a complaint filed by Mr. Sreejiths friend Ramesh Nambiar that the DIG had withdrawn Rs.40 lakh from his bank account when he was City Police Commissioner in Kozhikode.

The complainant pointed out that the money withdrawn by the DIG was his retirement benefits and insurance money.

The judge, while considering the petition, directed that a copy of the complaint be forwarded to the Director, Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau (VACB) for investigation under Section 156 (3) of the Criminal Procedure Code.
