Wild elephant dies at Kottamkara forest

KALPETTA:A wild elephant, which was under medical supervision for three days, died on Tuesday morning.

The animal, aged about 50, was found collapsed inside a forest at Kottamkara in the Sulthan Bathery forest range under the Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary on Sunday noon.

Septicaemia (a condition caused by pus-forming micro organisms in blood) was the cause of death, forest veterinary surgeon Arun Zachariah, who performed the autopsy, said.
