Work on drinking water plant to begin soon

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Work on Kerala Water Authoritys first packaged drinking water plant will begin at Aruvikkara in Thiruvananthapuram district next month.

Water Resources Minister N.K. Premachandran said here on Friday that the project was being taken up in view of rising demand for bottled water.

The purpose is to provide quality water at fair price, he said. The project would not cause any environmental damage as it would use only surface water.

There was no move to exploit groundwater, he said adding that it would utilise surplus water after supply to the capital city.
