5-year guarantee clause for city roads mooted

KOCHI: Major city roads should be repaired with a five-year guarantee clause for providing quality motorable roads for the city dwellers, feel civic administrators.

The Kochi Corporation will make a proposal for including the Chittoor Road in the guarantee scheme. Presently, the Sahodaran Ayyappan road and the Edapally High Court road are being repaired and maintained under the scheme. The civic authorities are of the view that the system should cover more roads which handles high volume of vehicular traffic. However, the permission for the work should be given by the State government, said M. Anilkumar, chairman of the Town Planning Standing Committee of the Kochi Corporation.

The road work can be implemented under the Peoples Plan programme and a proposal to this effect will be placed before the corporation council during its next session. The State government will not have to spend money for the project as the civic body would be able to meet the expense on its own, he said.
