Akshaya centres to accept bills

Thiruvananthapuram: The 2,200-odd Akshaya centres across the State would henceforth accept payment of taxes and bills issued by various government departments and agencies. They would be linked to the FRIENDS Janasevana Kendram network which functions solely for the purpose.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a function held here on Thursday to launch FREES, an open source software developed by the National Informatics Centre for the FRIENDS (Fast Reliable Instant Effective Network for Disbursement of Services) single window facility, mission coordinator Rajeevan Chaladan said a system for online payment of bills was also being introduced.

In the next two-three months, customers of the State Bank of Travancore will be able to make direct transfer of utilities payments through Net Banking. The payment gateway for other banks and credit / debit cards will be set up gradually, he added.
