THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The government and the private medical sector should join hands to fight the growing epidemic of diabetes in the Sate, Health Minister P.K. Sreemathy said here on Friday. She was inaugurating a campaign against diabetes, �War against Diabetes, launched by the Dhathri Group here earlier in the week.
The Indian Institute of Diabetes (IID) has been revamped by the government to launch several public health measures to fight diabetes. One of the main recommendations made by the State to the 13th Finance Commission was community-level interventions on a major scale to fight diabetes and it is expected to be approved, she said.
Awareness of the disease plays a key role in the fight against diabetes, said Shashi Tharoor, MP, who was the chief guest.
