Campaign to save river

KATTAPPANA: Environmentalists under the auspices of the Darsana Cultural Forum on Saturday observed World Environment Day as the Kattappana river protection day.

A cultural meeting and public march demanding steps to protect water sources were held as part of the programme.

President of the forum E.J. Joseph said the river, which originates from Elamala and ends at Anjuruly joining the Idukki reservoir, had a width of over 100 ft nearly two decades back. Now it has been reduced to a mere rivulet without any flow during summer.
