Empowering citizens against crime

Thiruvananthapuram: The police will soon enable civic-minded citizens with mobile phone cameras to send them photographs of traffic accidents, disasters and crime in real time.

Deputy Commissioner of Police C.H. Nagaraju said the proposed Social Intelligence Network for Crime and Information (Sinclair) would make it possible for the police to receive photographs with evidentiary value from citizens, members of the neighbourhood watch and coastal vigilance committees, including seagoing fishermen, quickly.

The informants could send photographs, text, video and audio recordings as multimedia messages (MMSs) to an email account operated by the police. The identity of the informants would be kept a secret.
