Flight develops snag, returns to airport

Nedumbassery: A Bangalore-bound Air India flight with 42 passengers on board that took off from the Cochin airport here on Tuesday aborted its journey after being airborne for nearly 15 minutes.

Airline officials said the daily flight IC 509, operated with an A320 type aircraft in the Kochi-Bangalore-Chennai sector, took off at 7.05 a.m. but returned on detecting a technical snag developing on the engine side. The crew immediately informed the ATC officials of the malfunctioning. They in turn alerted the airport officials and the aircraft was grounded 20 minutes later.

The passengers were put on other flights, said its spokesperson, adding that the unexpected turn of events did not affect other services.
