Medical camps to be organised

NAGAPATTINAM: Medical camps for cleft lip and cleft palate treatments would be organised in the district. In a release from the Collectorate, it has been stated that one child for every 800 births was affected with cleft lip and cleft palate. Over 400 such cases are presumed in the district.

Therefore, the department for the differently-abled along with the Kasturba Gandhi Kanya Gurukulam would organise medical camps to treat cleft lips and cleft palates.

Cleft lips and cleft palate medically known as cheiloschisis and palatoschisis is a condition where the upper lip and the roof of the mouth is deformed by birth.

According to the release, children from the age of three months to adults up to the age of 40 may participate in the camp.

Shortlisted persons would be taken for surgical treatment to Meenakshi Ammal Dental Hospital at Marudhavayal in Chennai.

Transport, accommodation and medical expenses would be made free of cost.

The release has called upon persons seeking to avail the treatment to register their names with the Office for the Welfare of the Differently-abled by the end of this month. Treatment would be provided in the month of July, the release stated.
