THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The world has reached a stage where environmental concerns can no longer be ignored, Forest Minister Benoy Viswom has said.
He was inaugurating a seminar on �Green technologies, organised by the P.N. Panicker Foundation as part of the Reading Week celebrations, here on Friday.
�To be green is to be human. Green is the colour of life, he said. Sustainable development was gaining widespread acceptance. Leftist politics, he said, had a prominent role in bringing about green practices.
He recalled how the former Chief Minister Achutha Menon overcame hurdles to implement green technologies as early as the 1970s.
The headquarters of the Centre for Development Studies (CDS) was completed at a fraction of the estimated cost, utilising Laurie Bakers cost-effective and eco-friendly technologies. This was done braving stiff opposition from various quarters, he said.
