National policy on pension sought

OCHI: Former judge of the Supreme Court, V. R. Krishna Iyer, has urged the government to evolve a national policy on retirement age and pension. Addressing a meeting of the SBI Pensioners Association (Kerala) here on Sunday, he said pension benefits were not charity and there should not be any discrimination or arbitrary decisions in respect of disbursement of pension.

The government does not have a standard policy on retirement age. The age of retirement varies in respect of various categories of employees such as IAS officers, High Court judges and Supreme Court judges. If Supreme Court judges are allowed to continue in service till the age of 65, is it justified on the part of the government to ask others to retire at an earlier age, he asked.

He also inaugurated a website of the association. B.S.Bhasin, Chief General Manager, State Bank of India, Kerala Circle, V.Ramamoorthy, General Manager, SBI, Local Head Office, Thiruvananthapuram, and others spoke.
