PWD road repair drive reviewed

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala State Transport Project Director Sanjay Kaushik, who is holding the charge of the Secretary, Public Works Department, on Tuesday reviewed the road repair works taken up as part of a pre-monsoon maintenance drive.

Officials claimed that repair works and cleaning of drains were almost over and asked for two weeks to complete the remaining works.

Funds for the works were allocated at a meeting convened by Principal Secretary Tom Jose on May 17.

The repair works, especially filling of potholes, are carried out using shellmac mixture and bitumen that allow black topping of the road even during rain. Contract has been given to carry out immediate repair if potholes develop on the roads. The work to replace damaged slabs is continuing.

Zebra lines are drawn in front of schools using thermoplastic mixture. But, as the work cannot be done during the rainy season, zebra lines have been drawn in front of many schools using paint as the schools have reopened for the academic year. Executive Engineers have been asked to ensure that lines using thermoplastic mixture are drawn after the monsoon. Maintenance work of the National Highway stretch is also progressing. Work had been taken up without waiting for funds from the National Highway Authority of India.
