Sukumaran Nair is NSS secretary

KOTTAYAM: The budget session of the Nair Service Society (NSS) has elevated assistant secretary G. Sukumaran Nair, the power behind the throne, to the newly created post of secretary.

Mr. Nair, who joined the NSS as an accountant, has a record of 48 years of service and has been playing a crucial role in the resurgence of the organisation. The brain behind the equidistance policy through which he has successfully turned the organisation into a vote bank, Mr. Sukumaran Nair was also instrumental in the implementation of its successful experiment in micro-financing.

Mr. Sukumaran Nair, who has been president of the Changanassery taluk union of the NSS for the past two decades, brings with him the vast experience he had gained through his association with Mannathu Padmanbhan and three general secretaries, N. Parameswaran Pillai, Kidangoor Gopalakrishna Pillai and P.K. Narayana Panicker. For the past eight years, he has been functioning as assistant secretary.

A close relative of Valparambil Velayudhan Pillai, one of the founding fathers of the NSS, Mr. Sukumaran Nair credits the NSS for his rise in the organisation.

I had no godfathers. But I could rise to this position because there is no organisation like the NSS which gives opportunity to those who are ready to work hard, he said.
