A festival of the king of fruits

KOCHI: Are you a die-hard fan of actor Suresh Gopi? If the answer is yes, the Kerala Mango Festival beginning at Ernakulam Town Hall is the place you should visit on Friday. The three-day festival organised by Greenvalley Public School, Kothamangalam, will have a mango variety �Suresh Gopi Pasanth named after the popular actor.

Tariq Musthafa, a farmer from Uttar Pradesh, has named this variety in recognition of Mr. Gopis successful career in the Malayalam film industry.

Pradeep Kuriakose, festival director, said here on Wednesday that the festival is unique as it is being organised by the students of the school. �Have you ever seen or heard of a 2-kg mango or a small (2 grams) mango? If not, you can spot these at the festival, he said. Nearly 200 varieties of mango will be on display at the venue. Mr. Kuriakose said that the event will give the public an opportunity to see and taste many hybrid varieties of the fruit besides giving them a chance to interact with the growers.

A mango eating competition will be held on Saturday. The organisers have also planned a mango quiz competition on the occasion.

The venue will also have mango dishes on display that include mango chicken biriyani, mango rice with curry, kappa with mango fish curry and mango cuts. More details about the festival can be had over 9895099444.
