Koottam\' members to meet today

Thiruvananthapuram: It is a two-lakh strong community that keeps growing. A huge inter-continental cyber platform that brings together people from different professions and social strata. And the one thing that binds the community is the love for Malayalam language and culture.

Two years ago, when Jyothikumar and his friend, Jayamohan, started koottam.com, a social networking site devoted to promoting Malayalam, they had no idea it would flower into a world-wide fraternity. Today, we have members in New Zealand, Australia, U.S., Canada, U.K., Dubai, Bahrain, Kuwait and Afghanistan blogging and chatting in Malayalam. They include scientists, farmers, politicians, doctors, manual labourers, government employees and students, Jayan Damodaran, a member of the fraternity, said

Nothing is anathema to us. Everything other than communalism and obscenity are discussed threadbare but only in Malayalam. The World Cup football tournament, the recent issue of identity politics and the assault on a college teacher at Muvattupuzha are hot topics of discussion on koottam.com, he said
