NCC to honour Kargil martyrs tomorrow

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The NCC directorate (Kerala and Lakshadweep) is organising a ceremony to mark Indias victory over hostile forces at Kargil and to remember the gallant men who sacrificed their lives for the defence of the motherland, according to a press note issued here.

The ceremony will be held at the martyrs memorial at 9.30 a.m. on July 26. Head of the royal family of erstwhile Travancore Uthradom Thirunal Marthanda Varma will be the chief guest on the occasion. Freedom fighter K.E. Mammen will administer a pledge.

Lt. Col. Krishna Kumar, spokesman for the NCC Group headquarters here, said the aim of the ceremony was to honour martyrs, generate the feeling of patriotism in youth and to inculcate the spirit of self-sacrifice, honesty and integrity among youngsters. The NCC was committed to being a useful component in the nation building process, the press note quoted him as saying.
