New students\' force in five school

KOCHI: Decks have been cleared for the launch of the Student Police Cadet (SPC) scheme in the district. A meeting of the district advisory board of the SPC that met here decided to start the project in five schools.

Student Police Cadet is a new concept launched by the State government in which students will come together to form a force like NCC and NSS.

The aim of SPC is to instil civic sense and social commitment among students and to enable students to support police in fight against crime and terrorism.

The schools identified for the project are: Government Girls High School, Ernakulam; St. Sebastian High School, Thoppumpady; Edward Memorial Girls High School, Fort Kochi; Vennala High School, Vennala; and Government Boys Higher Secondary School, Tripunithura.

The SPC meeting was held at the office of the City Police Commissioner Manoj Abraham, who is the chairman of the district advisory board. The district collector is the chief partron.
