State told to lead efforts in waste management

KOTTAYAM: Chairman of World Malayali Council, India region, George Kulangara has urged the State government to lead the efforts in waste management.

Speaking at a press conference here on Saturday, Mr. Kulangara said the State government should take up the responsibility of providing proper sanitation in the State. �The government should assist Corporations and municipalities through various programmes. The project should be conducted under the supervision of the Minister for Local Self-Government, he said. Mr. Kulangara said the State should avail itself of various funds allotted by the Central government for this project. �A large amount of allocated funds go unused every year. This assistance should be used for the development of the State,� he said.
