Admit merit list candidates: BJP

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has demanded that the government take steps to admit students to self-financing medical colleges from the merit list and complete admissions in the management quota in a fair and transparent manner.

Party spokesperson George Kurien told reporters here on Wednesday that in the wake of the High Court verdict cancelling the entrance examination conducted by the managements, both the government and the managements were using the students in the merit list as a bait to challenge the verdict. The examination was conducted in violation of the directions of the Supreme Court and the Indian Medical Council. There was an attempt to scuttle the admission of students in the merit list, he said.

As per the Supreme Court direction, the examination should be conducted in May and the first batch should be admitted on July 25.

The stance of the P.A. Mohammed Committee which failed to take a decision till the High Court pronounced its verdict is mysterious.
