Corporation plans slew of projects

Thiruvananthapuram: The City Corporation is gearing up to launch a package of projects in the run up to the elections to local bodies. Beginning this Thursday, the civic body has chalked out a series of inaugural functions.

The modernisation of the wholesale fish market at Pangode would be the first project off the block, Mayor C. Jayan Babu told a press conference here on Tuesday. The project, at a cost Rs.5.96 crore, included the construction of 50 stalls, cold storage, freezer, toilets, auction platform and generator. Work on an effluent treatment plant had already been completed. Mr. Babu said the National Fisheries Development Board had sanctioned an assistance of Rs.250 lakh for the project. The modernisation work was expected to be over in a year, he said.

The second project to be inaugurated on Thursday is the online system for issue of marriage, birth and death certificates. Provided by the Information Kerala Mission, the facility is designed to speed up the issue of certificates to the public. The inauguration of the renovated Pattarath Thuruthikulam pond in the Pappanamcode ward is the third function scheduled for Thursday.
