A horror that won\'t die down

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Hundreds of children from city schools were among those who observed Hiroshima Day on Friday and paid homage to those who lost their lives to the first atomic bombs used in the history of modern warfare.

Close to 5,000 children gathered at the Cotton Hill Government High School to take a peace pledge and to watch Forest Minister Benoy Viswom join a group of people in releasing doves and white balloons as a symbol of world peace. A photo exhibition was also organised at the school highlighting the horrors of nuclear war. The Minister distributed prizes to students who emerged toppers in the essay writing competition held in connection with Hiroshima Day. Representatives from Japan were also present for the programme organised by the Alumni Society of the Association of Overseas Technical Scholarship, Japan.
